![]() That said, the main components in an ordinary bike that cause it to run include compression, air/fuel mixture, and spark. However, before you decide to call it quits and use an alternative vehicle to your destination, you should first try to understand why your motorcycle won’t start. When this happens, it is likely that you will feel frustrated and disappointed by your motorbike. That said, nothing is quite as disappointing as wearing your helmet, getting on your bike, and trying to start it to no avail. Here are a couple of good resources for you.If your motorcycle won’t start, then there are some things you will have to check. Also if you have a multimeter than you need to monitor your battery voltage while you were trying to start it, if the battery charge is too low even if the engine is turning over some ignition systems don’t react well to that. ![]() ![]() Since you did get the engine to fire a little bit when you were bump starting it, I want to think that your ignition is working but it still could be a problem. Put it in Prime then open a drain screw on a carb to see if fuel flows. I can’t tell from your picture if you have a vacuum actuated fuel petcock, see if it has a prime position and if it does then you do. It looks like something was recently disconnected because it’s so clean, it might’ve happened when you pulled the tank up so you can look down inside and probably find a hose that you need to reconnect. I think the tube disconnected from the bottom of your fuel tank might be an overflow, if you have a recessed fuel filler cap on your tank, the excess has to drain someplace. It’s very suspicious that it wouldn’t start using the spray but in my experience carburetor cleaner spray does not work as well as regular starting fluid for that. It does sound like fuel is not getting from your petcock to your carburetors and one of the commenters suggested opening one or more carburetor float bowl drain screws to see if you got fuel coming from the tank to the carbs. Good luck with the issue and keep working at it! Once the lines were set up correctly and I disassembled and cleaned the carbs the bike started up like a champ. Took me a month of playing around to figure out that the previous owner tried cleaning the carbs and swapped the air/vacuum lines with fuel lines. I bought a bandit 600 that was going to the junk yard for 400$ when I had no idea how to fix a motorcycle. Biggest thing to remember when these carbed bikes won’t start is they are really simple. Start at the tank and move down the bike till you get to the engine. One way you can check this is to look in one of the carb float bowl drain plugs and make sure fuel is coming out.Īnother way to troubleshoot a fuel issue is work your way from the top down. Especially with the fact that when you sprayed starter fluid you just got a few strokes (literally running on fumes). I’d agree with it sounding like a fuel problem. And to me it looks like one is missing?Īll that said, what do I need to do? I'm not too experienced with this so I'm probably going to call our family's mechanic to make sure I don't fuck anything up, I don't think it will be much labor? Also all the connecting tubes and that are real old looking. Only thing that still needed fixing is my carbs diaphragms and maybe jets. Carbs were cleaned, spark plugs checked, oil replaced, stator is fine, air filter all good, filters in fuel tank all good, new 91 petrol. Turns out rectifier/alternator was fucked. Was serviced 3 months when the engine died out of nowhere. Didn't start with button start but I rolled down my driveway, kicked it into first and it fired up for like 1 second. ![]() Sprayed a whole lot of carb cleaner into airbox to use as starter fluid. Tried push starting it, turning over but not firing up. Charged battery all the way up and tried again, same thing. So tried to start bike thismorning, was turning over but not firing up. Image shows bike with tank raised but fully connected, mini fairings taken off and airbox removed. Stolen bikes belong in local subreddits.Showing off Bikes or Gear?
